First Week of Prosthetics

On 3/5 we brought home Callan’s first pair of prosthetics! It was the best visit we’ve ever had, and he was able to stand up for the very first time. Seeing him do that was incredibly emotional — it’s something we’ve been thinking about and waiting for for so long.
For the first two weeks he can only wear them for up to an hour at a time while he gets used to them. It’s definitely a bit of trial and error, but so far he gets really excited when he sees them (he loves the trucks on them) and does pretty well putting them on.
We’ve been standing him up in front of a chair and he’s doing great holding on with one hand. Crawling has been a little frustrating for him since he’s not used to having feet in the way yet.
We had his first PT visit today and we’ll be going once a week for a while. She was surprised at how well he’s already doing with them since we haven’t even had them for a full week yet. His right leg is strong, but his left will need a little more work because of how his bone is growing after surgery, so we’ll focus on strengthening that before walking becomes an option.
We’re taking it day by day, but we are so proud of him and love seeing just how strong he is. 💙
