Casting Day!
Today we had Callan’s casting appointment! This marks the start of the fitting process for his prosthetics and allows the team to create his sockets for the next two fitting appointments, where adjustments will be made as needed. The casting process was fairly easy however Callan didnt handle this very well, his legs are still sensitive they were able to do them both and luckily he calmed down fairly quick afterwards. The casting is basically a mold they use to be able to sta

First Prosthetic Office Visit
On 1/6, Callan had his cast removed, and on 1/9 we had our first visit at ForMotion. Callan and I had been there previously to meet the team and have a consult, but this was Zack’s first time. From the moment we walked in, they made us feel at home and comfortable the entire visit. Knowing we’ll be spending a lot of time there makes us feel so much better. Callan was fitted for his “shrinker socks,” which are compression socks that help make his legs the same size to allow fo

It’s The Little Things Always
Anyone who’s met Callan knows his happy, wild personality—he never slows down. Since getting his cast off, he’s had no choice but to take it easy. But yesterday, on the car ride home, he did something I’ll never forget. He lifted his pant leg, looked down at his legs, smiled, laughed, and started to dance. As a mom who’s watched her baby go through some of the most painful and challenging procedures, that small moment made everything worth it. Yes, he’s slowed down while he r

32 Days and the cast is OFF!
We went to Boston today for cast removal after 32 long days. The process of that is fairly quick but extremely miserable for Callan as he hated the noise / vibration. We went for X-rays after doing a quick wipe down (the cast gets really gross 🤢) X-rays showed the bones looked good and even some more growth of newer bones. The surgeon said we were all set and didn’t need any addition checkups, his stitches would dissolve on their own, we would just need to keep an eye on the

SPICA Cast
A total of 32 days not being able to crawl or move around. 32 days of being uncomfortable and irritated. 32 days of trying to keep an extremely active baby happy. We came up with ways that made him semi happy to pass the day. Some helpful items have been his wagon that we would sit him up in with toys propped up in front of him since he couldn’t reach much. A little tray that we could place in front of him for eating and playing. Never have I wanted him to be able to crawl a

Day of Surgery
The day we’d thought about for months was finally here. Everything we knew about our sweet boy was about to change—and this change will open the door to so many possibilities for him. The opportunities ahead feel endless. We arrived at the hospital at 6 a.m., and from then until 8 a.m. they completed his intake. He wasn’t too happy about it—he was exhausted and hungry—but with lots of toys and push-car rides, we made it through to the moment he was taken to the OR. His surger

The start
We have always said that this happened to Callan for a greater reason whether it was to teach us something about him, or to show us how to help somebody else going through something similar. I think by writing our story it may be helpful for others. We started out by meeting with our surgeon when Callan was 2 months old in October 2024 we had a hip ultrasound done and his first set of x-rays. At 8ish months we went back again for another set of x-rays and for another consult
